Santa Clara del Cobre Michoacan

Santa Clara del Cobre is a village famous for the production of copper items. For over 40 years we celebrate the National Copper Fair organized by artisans and villagers.

About 300 craft workshops allow the public to see them work and share their ancestral processing techniques. Here you learn how to melt copper burn at the stake where pine and oak timbers and whose fire is fueled by heavy hand bellows.

Once the molten metal is allowed to cool and cut into pieces, which are then hammered to form thin sheets. Melt and cool and hitting is a process that is repeated endlessly until the perfect piece. The art of hammered requires singular strength and patience.

Enjoy walking the streets of the town surrounded by houses painted in white and red tiles. Most have beautiful courtyards quarry.

Upon arrival at the center you will find the Plaza de Armas, and around it, small hotels, restaurants and craft shops.

In the center is a single kiosk eighteenth century for its copper roof and numerous iron benches where you can sit and admire the scenery.
Soon you will see vendors globes, snow cones syrup sweetened with currant and very tasted soursop snow. The traditional sweets are very famous throughout Michoacan, do not miss the chance to try them.

Santa Clara del Cobre is located 75 km from Morelia and 7 miles south of Lake Patzcuaro.

Santa Clara del Cobre es un pueblo famoso por la producción de artículos de cobre. Desde hace más de 40 años se celebra la Feria Nacional del Cobre organizada por artesanos y lugareños.

Cerca de 300 talleres artesanales permiten al público ver cómo trabajan y compartir sus técnicas ancestrales de elaboración. Aquí se aprende a fundir el cobre quemando en la hoguera donde se queman vigas de pino y encino y cuyo fuego es alimentado por pesados fuelles manuales.

Una vez fundido el metal se deja enfriar y se corta en trozos, que luego son martillados para formar delgadas láminas. Fundir y enfriar y golpear es un proceso que se repite sin cesar hasta obtener la pieza perfecta. El arte del martillado requiere de singular fuerza y paciencia.

Disfruta caminando por las calles del pueblo rodeadas de casas pintadas de tejas blancas y rojas. La mayoría tienen hermosos patios de cantera.

Al llegar al centro encontrarás la Plaza de Armas, y alrededor de ella, pequeños hoteles, restaurantes y tiendas de artesanías.

En el centro se encuentra un solo kiosco del siglo XVIII por su techo de cobre y numerosas bancas de hierro donde podrás sentarte a admirar el paisaje.

Enseguida verás vendedores de globos, raspados endulzados con jarabe de grosella y nieve de guanábana de muy buen sabor. Los dulces tradicionales son muy famosos en todo Michoacán, no pierdas la oportunidad de probarlos.
